Join us for an Info Session on January 25th to learn about the Mellon Indigenous Arts Initiative Internship Grants for Summer 2017.

The Mellon Indigenous Arts Initiative will offer grants of $3500 to UVA students who secure unpaid internships at museums/archives/historic sites during the summer of 2017.
This grant aims to encourage study in the Indigenous arts and to increase access to curatorial experience for students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in museum careers, including students who identify as African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, and individuals with disabilities.
Applications are open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in all fields of study who are in good academic standing (GPA 3.0 or higher).
Eligibility
Students applying for funds must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Are applying to internships related to the Indigenous arts, or
2. Are themselves from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in museum careers, including students who identify as African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, and individuals with disabilities.

The Mellon Indigenous Arts Initiative, in partnership with The Fralin Museum of Art and the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, seeks to encourage study in the Indigenous arts and to increase access to curatorial experience for students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in museum careers. Beginning in 2017, the Mellon Indigenous Arts Initiative will fund paid internships at The Fralin and Kluge-Ruhe.

The College and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, together with the Fralin Museum of Art and the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, is pleased to announce the new Mellon Indigenous Arts Fellows Program for University of Virginia faculty.
These fellowships will offer UVA faculty the opportunity to pursue creative and scholarly projects in the arts, forge new research initiatives with the museums and their collections, and jointly organize workshops, exhibitions and courses on interdisciplinary themes related to the Global Indigenous arts.

Mellon Indigenous Arts Fellows Program for UVA Faculty

Mellon Indigenous Arts Fellowships offer UVA faculty the opportunity to pursue creative and scholarly projects in the arts. Indigenous Arts Fellows will be able to forge new research initiatives with the museums and their collections, and jointly organize workshops, exhibitions and courses on interdisciplinary themes related to the Global Indigenous arts.
This first call for applications seeks to appoint up to five Arts Fellows working on the theme of the Indigenous Arts to begin Summer or Fall 2017. Additional calls for applications for this program will be announced in Fall 2017 and Fall 2018 to select up to five fellows per year.
The applications deadline is January 30, 2017. Please submit proposals to Amanda Wagstaff at aw2pz@virginia.edu and feel free to contact her with any questions.
